Aboriginal Health Service - Launceston

Hello, my name is Lisa Coulson. The TAC is a statewide organisation. The Northern Regional Office is based in Launceston and I am the Regional Manager with responsibility for all Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre activities in this region. Our centre in Launceston houses the Aboriginal Health Service, an Aboriginal legal service, the palawa kani language workers and Aboriginal cultural workers.

The Aboriginal Health service here has capacity for two doctors covering clinics five days a week, a registered nurse, Aboriginal Health Workers, midwife and child health nurse, Aboriginal community workers specialising in children and youth, a pregnancy support worker, speech pathologist, youth diversion worker, social worker and early childhood specialists. When you come into the building from Charles St., you enter a large community area or hub. This community space is where staff often have lunch and sit and chat to people. It’s a very friendly and relaxed environment and people come and go and mingle throughout the day. We look forward to having students come for placement and learn about us and the health services we offer.
